High-Voltage Amorphous Transformer
While the utility high-voltage in Japan is 6.6 kV, the high-voltage in Taiwan is 22 kV. Therefore, the 22kV transformer is standard, and the components are also mass-produced. That is why the cost of the 22kV transformer in Taiwan is lower than in Japan.
In addition, many 22kV transformers capacity in Japan are large (2,000kVA or more), and the no-load loss of the transformer is also huge.
For example, the no-load loss of a 22kV / 6.6kV 3,000kVA transformer installed between 1970's to 1980's is about 7,500W, but an Amorphous transformer of the same capacity is only 1,150W. In other words, it saves 6,350W in every hour.
